Why use a voltage divider
Voltage dividers reduce a voltage to a safer level. They are commonly used to connect 5V sensors to 3.3V microcontrollers like ESP32.
The math
Output voltage depends on the ratio between both resistors. The lower resistor determines how much input voltage reaches the output.
